Kenichi's attempt at the technique fails big time
The Ninja Restrainer (忍法金縛りの巻) is episode 17 of the 1981 anime.
Kenichi misuses a Ninja Technique that Hattori taught him.
Synopsis[]
Kemumaki and Kagechiyo infuriate Kenichi when they steal his buns, but Hattori, using the Ninja Technique of Binding Hands and Legs, freezes them and gets Kenichi his breakfast back. Later on, at home, Hattori explains to Kenichi that the Ninja Technique of Binding Hands and Legs can be used to prevent one's enemies should they try to attack them, Kenichi asks Hattori to teach him the technique, and Hattori replies that he will get the hang of it if he practises regularly, also warning him that he must not misuse the technique.
Later on, while practising, Kenichi tries the technique on some leaves, but Hattori tells him that there isn't a point trying it on inanimate beings. Kenichi then tries it on Shishimaru, but Shishimaru uses a mirror and the effects of the technique rebound and take hold of Kenichi instead. He also fails to try the technique on Mr Mitsuba when he gets home.
The following morning, Kenichi tries the technique on another pair of leaves, and is overjoyed when they appear to freeze in mid-air - in reality, they have just been caught in a cobweb. Just then, Shinzo and Shishimaru come out of the house, yawning and stretching, and Kenichi tries it on them. They pretend to freeze, and Kenichi, convinced that he has frozen them, runs off Happily. Hattori pulls up Shinzo and Shishimaru for deceiving Kenichi, and expresses his worry that Kenichi will try the technique on someone else and cause trouble.
Kenichi then tries to freeze a car as he tries to cross the road, and it stops - albeit for a red light. Kemumaki and Kagechiyo, who are spying on him, try to fool him, but Kenichi pulls a whisker out of Kagechiyo's face and walks off, leaving Kagechiyo in agony. He then tries the technique on Yumeko, but she assumes that he is trying to attack her and slaps him. He tries it out on Mr Koike at school, but this only ends in disaster: Mr Koike shouts at Kenichi and leaves him frozen. Hattori, who has been watching from afar, is exasperated.
